At NAK² Academy, the programs are very different but the principles we believe in are the same.:

Safety means having a place you can start as a beginner and not be intimidated or concerned about getting hurt. We have beginner only classes in every program to insure that you start out not only with the technical basics, but also a comfortable environment with people at your level. Safety also means careful thought goes into the design of all our exercises. Not everyone can safely throw a 200 pound bar over their head, but there are hundreds of exercises that can be modified from couch potato to elite athlete. We will show you how.
At NAK² Academy our training programs all focus on precise technique and hard work, that is how you get results. If you want to kinda know how to do something you can get the dummies book or check out the video on youtube. If you really want to know how to do something you get a professional coach. That is not just our job, but our commitment to you. You should also expect to work hard. There is no substitute for reps and sweat, and we do that a lot, but it’s equally important to be mentally focused in what you do. This is hard work also and it shows both on and off the mat.
Finally, we are here to build a community. Jen and I have three kids, a St Bernard, a ferret, four cats (three that hitched a ride home with us from Thailand, don’t get me started on that story), and this business. If you are like us, life is super busy. You want to be in shape, you want something to relieve stress, you want to socialize, you want to learn and improve yourself. At NAK² we are a traditional Muay Thai program. You will get in great shape, but this is not cardio-kickboxing. We do not blend arts and a patchwork of experience to create a Muay Thai class because it is popular in MMA.
Our program starts by building a solid foundation of basic techniques and conditioning. You will quickly learn why fighters are so ripped. Every strike challenges the whole body. Power comes from the ground and up through your legs and core.
Once you have basic technique you can begin to hit stuff. You will learn and get stronger on both sides of the pads. Hitting something will add resistance to already challenging movements and you will begin to discover the basics of timing and range. Repetition and conditioning are huge in this phase.
Advanced students will begin to learn high level concepts of range and timing combined with tricks and combinations. That is what makes the difference between being able to perform the technique and being able to land the technique in a fight. At this point the life-long journey of refinement begins.
As you progress down this path you will get stronger both physically and mentally. You will find limits and push past them. A Muay Thai fighter is humble and courageous but also powerful and aggressive. You may never aspire to step into the ring, but you will find all of these attributes within yourself at NAK² Muay Thai.
At NAK² we offer a beginners course in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Our program is not designed for advanced belts or competitors, but we do offer the new student a great opportunity to start out in a class with solid fundamentals. You won’t need to worry about being thrown around and twisted in knots by a bunch of upper level students.
There are so many benefits to learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practice is a great workout. Moving on the ground with the resistance of your own body and sometimes the weight of another person brings out a whole new level of fitness. You will also increase muscle tone, flexibility and joint mobility while burning a ton of calories.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is also a martial art that can be practiced at nearly 100% resistance with minimal risk of injury. Eye gouging and biting might work in a fight, but it’s hard to find partners to practice with.
At it’s core, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a self defense art that allows a smaller person to avoid getting hurt while controlling an attacker using leverage and technique. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu allows you to control your opponent, and from that control position, make a decision about how much or how little force you want to use.
WHAT IS CAGE FITNESS?
It is a complete workout program that is designed to cater to people at all levels of fitness. Cage Fitness™ is based on the structure of a championship MMA bout. What this means is that Cage Fitness™ will give you a total body workout in just 5 – 5 minute rounds.There are four key elements that are focused on: endurance, strength, power and core. This is accomplished through our 5 round fitness system which is broken up into the following categories: Warm Up, Upper Body, Lower Body, Combo Round and Cool Down/Core.
The best part about Cage Fitness™ is that an individual can customize their workout by adjusting their intensity level to best suit their personal fitness goals. Each 5 minute round incorporates both aerobic and anaerobic exercises that will help maximize burning fat while also gaining muscle. This system of training allows the participant to burn more calories while increasing ones metabolism.
WHO IS INVOLED?
Cage Fitness™ is endorsed and tested by 9 time Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes. The excersises have been created from mixed martial artist, Matt Hughes and Kai Fusser M.S. Kai Fusser has trained elite level athletes such as 10 x LPGA major winner Annika Sorenstam, NBA Allstar Grant Hill, 3 time X Games gold medal winner Darin Shapiro,Formula One and Indy racing league driver Eddie Cheever and many more.
Frequently asked questions
Is there any contact in cage fitness? NO. There is no contact in Cage Fitness™ or working with any partners. Cage Fitness™ is a fitness program designed for individuals to work at their own pace. The exercises are safe for women and men.
Is Cage Fitness™ Martial Arts? NO. Cage Fitness™ is based on the training methods used by Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) athletes. MMA participants are considered by most to be accomplished athletes who have obtained the highest levels of fitness. We have modified some of their training techniques to create this fitness program. Cage Fitness™ will get people into the best shape without having to train in MMA. This makes cage fitness not only one of the best workouts one can get, but also challenging and fun.
I have never worked out before….is Cage Fitness™ for me? Yes. Unlike an aerobic class or other fitness classes where an instructor is leading a group of people through various exercises at a certain pace, Cage Fitness™ allows everyone to go at their own pace. Cage Fitness™ is broken up into 5 – 5 minute rounds that are made up of timed segments within those rounds. An individual can compete with themselves to see how many repetitions of each exercise he/she can do within those segments.
What should I wear to class? Participants should wear comfortable and loose fitting work out clothes. When signing up one should also purchase bag gloves for hitting the grappling dummy.
How long are the classes? Cage Fitness™ was designed to get maximum results in a short amount of time. The class is 30 minutes which consists of 5 – 5 minute rounds with a minute rest in between. This is the same format used in a championship MMA match. This allows an individual to complete a great workout without taking up too much of their day.

- Control : Martial arts training requires that we control the movement of our body, the application of our power, and modulation of our temper and ego.
The mastery of a martial art requires daily application of all these attributes. As we live these details day in and day out we begin to internalize. Self-discipline, self-respect, self-confidence, self-control.
Anti-Bullying: This is a hot topic in the media these days, but it is not a new subject. Growing up is difficult and bullying is harmful to both the victim and the bully. Being part of our martial arts program will provide so much more than the physical tools to stand up to a bully. Our martial arts class is a safe and caring environment for kids to interact with a ZERO tolerance policy on hazing, teasing, and intimidation both physical and emotional. Every class will have a variety of kids with different levels of ability, experience, and strength. Growing and learning together in a positive environment teaches a student how to accept help from senior students. It teaches senior student a mentality of caring and service to those with less strength and experience. As part of this team your child will not only get stronger and more skilled, but they will also develop a sense of empathy and compassion for others. They will be too strong to be bullied and too kind to allow themselves to be part of bullying behavior.
